The US Department of the Navy is the Department of Defense's surf and turf unit. Established in 1798, its mission is to train and equip combat-ready forces to help deter aggression against the US and its allies. It operates through three main bodies: the Navy Department, which consists mostly of executive offices; the operating forces, including the US Marine Corps, Navy reserve forces, and in times of war the US Coast Guard; and the shore establishment, which consists of repair, communication, and training facilities.

We considered many names for our site—in fact we spent our first year and a half under a different name—EkoHub. We liked “Eko” — coming from the Greek word Oikos, related to economy, ecology, and “home” or social concerns. From the beginning, we believed the word “Hub” reflected our desire to be at the center of the sustainability area, providing knowledge, harmony, and consensus among the hundreds of experts judging the ESG performance of companies.
