KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation, founded in April 2005, is engaged in the paper, packaging, forest products and related industries. KapStone Paper, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, KapStone Kraft Paper Corporation, purchased the Kraft Papers Business of International Paper Company, including Rite Aid in 2006. On July 1, 2008, KapStone purchased the Charleston Kraft Business from MeadWestvaco, which consists of a large paper mill in Charleston, SC; an on-site cogeneration facility; a lumber mill in Summerville, SC; and five chip mills. Effective March 31, 2009 KapStone has sold its Ride Rite division to Illinois Tool Works Inc.

We considered many names for our site—in fact we spent our first year and a half under a different name—EkoHub. We liked “Eko” — coming from the Greek word Oikos, related to economy, ecology, and “home” or social concerns. From the beginning, we believed the word “Hub” reflected our desire to be at the center of the sustainability area, providing knowledge, harmony, and consensus among the hundreds of experts judging the ESG performance of companies.
