Investors Bancorp, Inc. is a holding company for Investors Bank (the Bank), a New Jersey chartered savings bank. The Company is in the business of attracting deposits from the public through its branch network and borrowing funds in the wholesale markets to originate loans and to invest in securities. It originates mortgage loans secured by one- to four-family residential real estate loans, multi-family loans, commercial real estate loans, construction loans, commercial and industrial loans and consumer loans, the majority of which are home equity loans and home equity lines of credit. Securities, primarily United States Government and Federal Agency obligations, mortgage-backed and other securities represented 11.9% of its assets at December 31, 2011. On January 9, 2012, Investors Bancorp, Inc. completed the acquisition of Brooklyn Federal Bancorp, Inc. On October 15, 2012, Piraeus Bank SA sold 98.5% interest in Marathon Banking Corporation to the Company.

We considered many names for our site—in fact we spent our first year and a half under a different name—EkoHub. We liked “Eko” — coming from the Greek word Oikos, related to economy, ecology, and “home” or social concerns.
