In 1985, Greene County Bancshares, Inc. became the holding company for Greene County Bank. Concurrent with the change of the bank name to GreenBank in 2007, the holding company name was changed to Green Bankshares, Inc. With total assets of approximately $2.9 billion, Green Bankshares is the third largest bank holding company headquartered in the state of Tennessee (October 2009). GreenBank is a Tennessee chartered commercial bank with its principal executive offices in Greeneville, Tennessee and over 60 branch locations throughout East and Middle Tennessee, including a branch in Western North Carolina and a branch in Bristol, Virginia.

We considered many names for our site—in fact we spent our first year and a half under a different name—EkoHub. We liked “Eko” — coming from the Greek word Oikos, related to economy, ecology, and “home” or social concerns. From the beginning, we believed the word “Hub” reflected our desire to be at the center of the sustainability area, providing knowledge, harmony, and consensus among the hundreds of experts judging the ESG performance of companies.
