Ecopetrol S.A. carries out hydrocarbon exploration activities in 32 blocks of Colombian territory directly and in 15 more indirectly. Ecopetrol S.A. is responsible for the total production of crude oil and gas in the country obtained by means of direct and associated operations. The operation includes the extraction, collection, treatment, storage and pumping or compression of hydrocarbons. With operations throughout the national territory, Ecopetrol has four management divisions to handle the operation of 163 production fields. In 2009, the total daily oil production in the country was 672 barrels a day (kbpd), 426 kbpd of which were Ecopetrol´s.

We considered many names for our site—in fact we spent our first year and a half under a different name—EkoHub. We liked “Eko” — coming from the Greek word Oikos, related to economy, ecology, and “home” or social concerns. From the beginning, we believed the word “Hub” reflected our desire to be at the center of the sustainability area, providing knowledge, harmony, and consensus among the hundreds of experts judging the ESG performance of companies.
