Centrais Eletricas de Santa Catarina SA (Celesc) is a Brazil-based holding company involved in the electric power sector. The Company and its subsidiaries are primarily active in the distribution, transmission and generation of electric energy. In addition, Celesc operates in the piped natural gas distribution segment. As of December 31, 2011, the Company had two wholly owned subsidiaries, Celesc Distribuicao SA and Celesc Geracao SA, and two affiliated companies, Companhia de Gas de Santa Catarina (SCGAS) and Empresa Catarinense de Transmissao de Energia SA (ECTE). Celesc Distribuicao SA is engaged in the distribution of electricity. Celesc Geracao SA is active in the operation of 12 small hydroelectric power plants, with a total installed capacity of 81.9 megawatts (MW). SCGAS is active in the distribution of natural gas in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. ECTE holds concession contract for electric power transmission.

We considered many names for our site—in fact we spent our first year and a half under a different name—EkoHub. We liked “Eko” — coming from the Greek word Oikos, related to economy, ecology, and “home” or social concerns. From the beginning, we believed the word “Hub” reflected our desire to be at the center of the sustainability area, providing knowledge, harmony, and consensus among the hundreds of experts judging the ESG performance of companies.
