The JSE’s Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Index was launched in May 2004 in response to the burgeoning debate around sustainability globally and particularly in the South African context. The SRI Index comprises of listed companies which meet criteria related to their environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies, management practices and reporting. The index also includes best performers, which are companies that meet the thresholds for best performance in relation to environment and climate change, as well as all relevant core indicators in relation to both Society and Governance & related sustainability concerns, including independent chairperson.
